The Honest Pasco County Summer Camp Guide for 2026
By Chelsea Rose | Local Love Zephyrhills & East Pasco
Let me tell you something about Pasco County that doesn’t get said enough:
There is a lot going on here.
Good things. Real things. Programs that families in bigger, flashier markets would genuinely be jealous of — and we’ve got them right here.
Summer camps are one of them.
I know the reputation. People assume that because we’re not Tampa, we’re settling for whatever’s leftover. We’re not.
Between Pasco County’s own Parks & Recreation camps, the YMCA of the Suncoast right here in Zephyrhills, specialty STEM and career camps through Pasco-Hernando State College, and several other genuinely strong programs, families in our area have real options.
This guide breaks down:
-
What camps are actually worth looking at
-
What they cost
-
Which ones work best for working parents
-
Which programs still tend to have openings later into the season
-
And what questions you should ask before handing over a deposit

Updated for 2026
Camp dates, pricing, and availability can change quickly.
This guide was updated using official county, school district, YMCA, PHSC, and program websites as of May 2026. Families should always confirm details directly with each organization before registering.
First, Here’s How Summer Camp Registration Works in Pasco County
Pasco doesn’t handle summer camp the same way neighboring counties do — and honestly, I think our system is better.
Pasco County Parks & Recreation uses a lottery-based registration system instead of the old first-come-first-served scramble. It’s fairer for families, but it also means you cannot wait until late May and expect to easily grab a spot.
For 2026:
-
Lottery registration opened April 10–13
-
Lottery selection happened April 15
-
Open registration for remaining spots began April 21
-
Before/after care registration opened April 24
The most popular locations fill quickly every year.
If you missed the lottery this year, don’t panic — there are still options throughout the county. But for next year? Set a reminder now for early April.
Future-you will be grateful.

The Community Staple for East Pasco Families
This is the backbone of summer for a lot of Pasco families — and there’s a reason it fills every single year.
Seven weeks of structured, affordable, full-day programming:
-
Sports
-
Games
-
Arts & crafts
-
Movies
-
Guest speakers
-
Field trips

Social time with kids from across the community
It’s not trying to be flashy.
It’s trying to be reliable, affordable, safe, and genuinely good for kids.
And honestly? It succeeds.
One of the biggest strengths here is affordability. Compared to private camps in Tampa, the county’s pricing is extremely competitive — especially for full-day care.

Full-Day vs. Half-Day Camps
What Actually Works Best for Working Parents?
Here’s the honest answer:
If you’re in a two-working-parent household (or doing it solo), full-day camp with extended care is usually the least stressful option.
Half-day specialty camps are amazing for enrichment — especially for older kids — but they usually require afternoon flexibility.
| Full-Day Camps | Half-Day Camps | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical Hours | 7 a.m.–6 p.m. | 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. |
| Before/After Care | Usually available | Rarely available |
| Best Fit | Working parents | Flexible schedules |
| Includes Field Trips | Often yes | Usually no |
| Best Local Options | YMCA, County, ASEP | PHSC Specialty Camps |

Questions Every Parent Should Ask Before Registering
Before you commit, ask these:
-
What’s your counselor-to-camper ratio?
-
What’s your outdoor heat policy?
-
Are field trips included?
-
Can staff help with sunscreen?
-
What’s your cancellation/refund policy?
-
How are behavioral challenges handled?
-
What exactly should my child bring daily?
A confident, clear answer to those questions usually tells you a lot about the quality of the program.
Final Thoughts
One thing I genuinely love about East Pasco is that families still have options here.
Affordable options. Community-centered options. Programs where kids can still just be kids.
And whether you’re a longtime local or relocating to the area, I hope this guide helped make summer planning a little easier.
